Munawer Rattansey - Connecting Our Community

Serving With Simplicity And Transparency

Simplicity Transparency

The World Federation ultimately exists to serve its community members. It belongs to all of us as community members. Yet today we see far too many of our community members, such as our youth, and elders feel disengaged from their organisation.

We must engage the disengaged. And this can only be done through a culture of openness.

Our community members deserve to know how their money is being spent.

Our community members need to know more about the successes and weaknesses of their organisation.

Our community members have not only the right but also the duty to question their leadership.

And our leadership has the duty to provide honest answers.

It is fair to say some good work has been done at The World Federation to increase transparency. For example it is excellent to see greater openness in meetings and opportunities for community members to ask questions. But so much more needs to be done.

I have been talking to community members around the world. In my recent visits around North America and Africa, many community members have told me of their dissatisfaction with the lack of accountability. We need to urgently address this concern. Transparency and accountability are not just words. They are the cornerstone of our organisation which truly belongs to the people.

We must celebrate success. But we also need to be honest about our mistakes.

I pledge to:

  • report honestly every year on what has been achieved from my manifesto and what is yet to be done.
  • provide an annual report on our administration costs and work hard to reduce them
  • make sure all secretariat departments provide annual reports clearly stating their successes and shortcomings
  • honestly assess the impact of projects supported by The World Federation
  • engage with community members around the world using to exchange honest feedback and dialogue (including using innovative online methods)

    Salam alaykum.

My best wishes to you on this journey. Of all your pledges, I find this most heartening. Accountability and openness brings confidence in the leadership of any organisation. For too long the WF has been run as a private members club with decisions made and actions taken that beggars belief. It was who you knew and how much influence you can exert that got you any support.

I applaud you for addressing this issue and making a firm pledge to end such practices.

I wish you all the very best. May Allah give you strength and courage to continue to lead in such a way.

    With duas
