Munawer Rattansey - Connecting Our Community

Creating A Healthy Environment – Essential To Our Prosperity

Creating A Healthy Environment – Essential To Our ProsperityIt's deeply disturbing to see our members of our community in the developing world plagued by poverty. Some have spent years living in an environment of malnutrition and disease. We have to act and urgently prevent such suffering.

Furthering the current medical and health work of The World Federation is essential and we need to particularly focus on primary healthcare in the developing world. There is already wonderful work ongoing - for example in the setting up of self-funding schemes like health centres and eye clinics. But as ever, much more can be done.

I want to promote the well-being of our global community in every way - be it spirituality, socially or physically. That's why I believe it's important to promote a community which not only cares about the healthcare of its members - but does it's ultimate to promote health.

Put simply, prevention is better than cure. We need to work hard throughout the world particularly in developing countries to being about a public health agenda throughout our community.

It's an urgent task - one that needs real action and not just words. So here are five deliverable ideas I'm pledging to achieve...

1. To promote health education throughout the world and further prevention techniques like screening and early warnings.

2. To deliver greater vaccination and immunisation programmes.

3. To improve the community's health facilities throughout the world

4. To create new eye clinics and health centres in partnership with the regions

5. And finally to create a Zainabiyya Health Strategy for children being educated under the Zainabiyya Child Sponsorship Scheme.

I follow your updates keenly and this last one on health may seem boring but perhaps one of the part very conveniently forgotten. I wish all the luck in your success and this socio-medical issue are vital.

  • Community Health professional  - Complecency and lack of involvement of fellow heal
    SA,

Thank you for highlighting such important issues in Health care facing our community globally. There are several facets we could explore such as:

-lack of communication and sharing of good practices within various regional federations globally so that it adds value and enriches the healt of our community as a whole.

-compleicency in health matters not just by members but also by it's leaders.

-lack of urgency and failure to look at holistic practices such as promoting healthy living as part of our spiritual development and health promotion from the pulpit by our religious leaders and vice versa.

-Waste of resources such as money which are spent on feeding worshippers in affluent parts of our community rather than the needy elsewhere.

-Lack of enthusiasm and involvement of fellow health professionals which is a waste of our human resources in a way.

-The need for securing means and funds in the way of health insurance in order to procure specialist medical services for the needy in our community globally.

the list is endless. We in the west are fortunate to have free and cutting edge medical services but the focus should now be turning towards health equality and pulling our less fortunate brothers and sister in line to benefit from equivalent superior medical services. This has to be done in an economically viable way whereby we stretch our limited funds and resources to go far.

We are currently being tested in with the spread of the H1N1 infection globally to review our resources be it monetary, influence to other organisations such as the WHO and expertise within the community to prepare and educate our community as a whole. Yet, there is no single voice which is heard to highlight this at present. We should Thank Allah (SWT) that this is a mild illness but had it been more virulent, then the consequences would be unthinkable especially in areas of the world where governments aren't as proactive in stock piling treatments.

We need a single voice and a guiding hand to unite us to meet our potential and exploit the wealth within our community which is under utilised or wasted elsewhere.

I pray to Allah (SWT) to bless you and guide you in achieving this incredible challanges you will be embarking upon in the Office of President of the WF should you be successful.

    Duas and salaams,

    Concerned member of the community
