I waste not the labour of any that labours among you, be you male or female the one of you is from the other...
Qur’an - Al Imran Verse 195
We often encounter a political culture in our community which excludes women from taking part in decision making. Women, like men, must be given the opportunity to serve in our community.
They must be active and equal participants in all areas of community life. At the same time, we must ensure that we act with Islamic principles.
It is the women who are the bedrock of our families. We must acknowledge the hard work put in by our female volunteers and improve the representation of women in our organisations.
By 2012 I pledge to ...
- • Encourage the women of our community to take part in the decision making at the highest levels so they have greater opportunities to serve.
- • Recommend to elect/appoint a minimum of two female Executive Councillors.
- • Champion greater participation and voting rights for women at all levels.
