Surely today you are the youth of the nation, and tomorrow, you will be the leaders of the community, thus, it is incumbent upon you to seek knowledge
Our young people are our future, and our elders are the foundations of our community.
We are forever indebted to our elders and their hard work in keeping our religious practices and our community spirit alive, despite the hardships many of them have had to endure. I want the elders of our community to be treated with the respect they deserve.
At the same time it is imperative that we fully involve and nurture our youth. I have met hugely talented and enthusiastic young people in all of our communities around the world. Many of them have innovative ideas and are bubbling with enthusiasm.
Our community can benefit greatly by combining the energy of our youth and the experience of our elders.
By 2012 I pledge to ...
- • Implement the senior citizens’ needs assessment for each area of the world by:
- - Beginning construction programmes based on the needs of our seniors including housing, assisted living and recreational centres
- - Supporting and assisting the current senior citizen jamaat groups around the world
- - Fostering the creation of more senior citizen groups wherever possible
- - Developing systems for retirees and philanthropists to get involved in running projects
- • Develop and promote the young people of our community by:
- - Creating high level posts for younger people including one Office Bearer under the age of 30
- - Holding and attending youth conferences every four months around the world
- - Creating a post of youth co-ordinator to facilitate networking and connecting of regional youth desks
- - Holding meetings with our youth and listening to them at every opportunity
- - Creating a gap year project and summer volunteering schemes
